High-End Residential Redevelopment

Set within one of Toronto’s established residential neighbourhoods, this residence was reimagined as a refined contemporary home while preserving the architectural character that connects it to its original setting.

A defining element of the project was the existing handcrafted brick façade, whose distinctive masonry gives the house much of its identity and reflects the established character of the surrounding neighbourhood. Rather than replacing this architectural expression, the design approach sought to retain and respect the original façade while introducing subtle modern minimalist details and carefully integrating a small addition. The result preserves the home’s familiar presence on the street while giving it a refined contemporary expression.

Behind this characteristic exterior, the residence underwent a complete interior transformation. The interior was redesigned around a modern minimalist aesthetic, creating more open and functional spaces defined by clean lines, refined proportions and carefully considered details. Natural materials, warm white-oak elements and European chevron flooring establish a restrained palette, while custom millwork, integrated cabinetry and thoughtful transitions create continuity throughout the home. Proportion, texture and light were considered at every stage, allowing the interiors to feel sophisticated without unnecessary ornament.

The transformation extended beyond the visible finishes. The structure, building envelope and building systems were upgraded and coordinated to support contemporary standards of comfort, performance and longevity. Premium appliances and fixtures were integrated into the architectural language of the interiors, while specialized exterior features—including a heated driveway—extend the same attention to function and detail beyond the living spaces.

From early design development and municipal approvals through construction and final detailing, ECOMES coordinated the architectural, engineering and construction disciplines required to translate the design vision into the completed residence.

The result is a home that respects the craftsmanship and architectural identity of its original façade while introducing a distinctly modern minimalist interior—bringing old and new together through material quality, thoughtful detailing and carefully executed design.
